Birth Story Listening

Sharing Stories

Sharing birth stories in our culture can be rocky to navigate. Well-meaning friends and relatives (and sometimes strangers!) may ask about and expect to know details of an incredibly personal experience. It may be easy to share the joys and things that you feel went well. Other times it can really hard to convey the magnitude of your experience, especially when events were unplanned, unexpected, unwanted. You may be telling your story over and over, to anyone who will listen. You may be hoping to find connection, validation, healing, looking for some kind of relief and not getting it, no matter how many times you tell your story. Birth is hard work, a transformation, and it changes us. And sometimes we need help navigating and processing our stories.

A Safe Space to Feel Heard

Perhaps you had unwanted, unplanned, and/or unexpected events that are still sitting with you. They may even be affecting you as a parent, a partner, a person, and taking up space in your mind more often than is manageable. We work together through parts of your birth/postpartum experience to help you make discoveries and feel deeply listened to. Feeling deeply heard can help shift things, often moving story tellers from feeling stuck to a place where they feel they can move and take the next step in a new direction. Although sometimes those shifts are big and happen in the session themselves, most often sessions can be a catalyst for change, a small seed planted, a pointing in a new direction, with more work to do. Healing is a journey.

Healing Through Story

Telling stories is a very human way of finding connection to others, which often requires vulnerability. We use great stories of a hero’s journey, of events past, and of our ancestors who have traveled this path before us.

A Guide for Your Journey

Birth Story Listeners listen deeply. They are not there to fix anything or do the work for you, but like a good compass, they may point you in a different direction on your path to healing.
